Homemade Flour Tortillas

Here is a simple, Step- by- step recipe for flour tortillas that is just in time for #TacoTuesday!

Ingredients You Will Need:

  • 3 Cups All- Purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/3 Cup Vegetable oil
  • 1 Cup Water, Luke Warm

Ingredients for flour tortillas

Step 1:  In a bowl, incorporate all ingredients together.

Flour tortilla dough

Step 2: Knead dough for 3 to 5 minutes or until dough is no longer sticky.

Tortilla dough rolled into golf sized balls

Step 3: Divide dough into about 16 golf sized balls and  roll them out like the picture above.

The first ones won’t come out perfect, trust me. They’ll be delicious either way. Don’t get discouraged, just keep rolling them out!

Step 4: With your roller, start to flatten them. The thinner the better. A good trick that my mom taught me is to turn your tortilla as you roll it to ensure the ideal shape.

Step 5: Place your tortillas on a skillet (comal), or pan over medium- high heat and cook it until there are light brown spots and no longer doughy. Don’t let them cook too long or they will get hard.

Tortillas wrapped in tea towel

Last but not least, take your tortilla stack and wrap them in a clean kitchen towel or tea towel to keep the warmth in and to keep them soft, or if you are like me and my kids, enjoy them as is!
